Romanian curriculum

45 lessons from A1 to B2. Each level is built on the level description of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), has a mock exam in the format of the official one, and every part of that exam is linked to the lessons that teach it.

The curriculum prepares you for the level and the exam. The official certificate is awarded by the body that runs the exam, not by the platform.

Basic user

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people they know and things they have. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

  1. A1.1 The Romanian Alphabet and Pronunciation

    The foundation lesson that comes before everything else: read any Romanian word at first sight, produce the five letters Arabic does not have, and spell your own name out loud at an office counter.

  2. A1.2 Greetings and Introductions

    Greet people in Romanian, say your name, where you are from and what you do for a living, and learn the one distinction that decides how polite you sound: tu versus dumneavoastră.

  3. A1.3 Family and Home

    Talk about your family and where you live: introduce a brother or a sister, describe a flat room by room, and ask a landlord the questions you need answered before you sign anything.

  4. A1.4 Shopping and Meals: Groceries, Ordering, and Paying

    Shop, order and pay in Romanian: ask a price and actually understand the answer, buy by weight at a market, order from a menu, and ask for the bill.

  5. A1.5 Daily Routine and Work Schedule

    Tell the story of your whole day in Romanian — from waking up to going to bed — tell and ask the time, and coordinate work shifts and household schedules.

  6. A1.6 The City and Transport

    Ask for directions and understand the reply, buy a ticket and check where the bus is heading, and give your exact location to a taxi driver or an ambulance dispatcher.

  7. A1.7 Free Time and Modal Verbs

    Say "I can", "I want" and "I have to" in Romanian, talk about your free time and hobbies, ask your manager to leave early, and invite a colleague for a coffee.

  8. A1.8 Describing People and Things in Romanian

    Describe the people and the things around you in Romanian: identify a new colleague, pick out an object by its colour, and compare two things or name the best one in the set.

  9. A1.9 The Compound Past (Perfectul compus) & Workplace Reporting

    Learn the Romanian past tense: say what you did yesterday and last week, report finished work to your supervisor, and state when you paid the rent or when your symptoms started.

  10. A1.10 Weather and Seasons in Romania

    Talk about the weather in Romanian: describe what it is doing right now, ask for the temperature, and say what tomorrow will bring — using the easiest future tense the language has.

  11. A1.11 At the Doctor and the Pharmacy

    Explain how you feel in Romanian: locate the pain, tell a doctor why you came, and understand a pharmacist's instructions and dosage without guessing.

  12. A1.12 A Form, an Address: The Indefinite Article and Official Papers

Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

  1. A2.1 Narrating the Past and Professional History (A povesti trecutul)

    Move from stating what happened to actually telling the story: set the scene in one past tense, drop the event in another, mark what had already happened before that, and link it all together with the connectors a listener needs.

  2. A2.2 Work and Professions

    The full language of the workplace: naming your job and your employer, explaining your hours and your shift, reading a vacancy notice, understanding a contract before you sign it, and switching cleanly between the formal register you use with a manager and the informal one you use with a colleague.

  3. A2.3 Housing and Renting in Romania

    Rent a flat in Romania from the advert to the keys: phone the landlord, ask what the rent covers, view the place and describe what is in it, understand the deposit and the contract, and report a fault politely once you have moved in.

  4. A2.4 Travel and Holidays

    Plan a trip and carry it out in Romanian: book a ticket and a room, read the departure boards, agree a meeting point with a colleague, and speak up when the train is late or your suitcase does not arrive.

  5. A2.5 Public Services and Banking in Romania

    Walk into any Romanian public office and get your business done: open a bank account, collect a parcel, file an application at a government counter, and understand the fixed written formulas the clerk uses back at you.

  6. A2.6 Shopping and Complaints

    A1 taught you to buy. This unit teaches you to compare, choose, return, exchange and complain — politely enough to be taken seriously and firmly enough to get your money back.

  7. A2.7 Health, the Body, and Medical Visits

    A1 taught you to tell a doctor what hurts. This unit runs the other way: understanding what the doctor tells you, reading a dosage at the pharmacy, and notifying your supervisor at work to get a sick note.

  8. A2.8 Expressing Opinions and Feelings at Work and Daily Life

    Answer the two questions that come up at work every single day — "what do you think?" and "how are you doing?" — by giving an opinion with a reason behind it, disagreeing without damaging the relationship, and describing your own state precisely rather than vaguely complaining.

  9. A2.9 Media and Communication in Workplace and Technology

    Handle the written language that reaches you every morning — an email from your manager, a message from a colleague, a link to a news story — reply to each, report a technical fault, and pass on accurately what you read or heard.

  10. A2.10 Plans and Intentions (Planuri și intenții)

    The closing unit of A2: tell the difference between what you intend and what is already scheduled, commit to a deadline, chain two future events in one sentence, and propose moving a meeting without sounding as though you are cancelling it.

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

  1. B1.1 Interpersonal Relationships & Workplace Interaction (RON.B1.1)

    Learn to describe the people around you at work and at home, apologise properly, propose a compromise, ask for advice — and talk about what should have happened but did not.

  2. B1.2 Education and Training in Romania

    Talk about your studies in Romanian, take your diploma through the recognition office, enrol on a vocational course, and structure what you say in front of a panel or a manager.

  3. B1.3 The Job Interview in Romania

    Read a Romanian job advert, write a cover letter, walk into the interview room and hold your own — your experience, the employer's questions, the salary and the contract, and a clean closing line.

  4. B1.4 Technology and the Internet in the Workplace

    Report a fault precisely enough for it to be fixed, read the instruction language that appears on every Romanian screen, and explain to your manager what happened on the video call or on the production line.

  5. B1.5 Environment and Nature (Mediu și natură)

    Learn the vocabulary of waste sorting, recycling and energy as it is actually written in workplace rules and building notices — and learn to link a cause to a result to a purpose in one sentence.

  6. B1.6 Social Issues and Civic Life

    The language of paperwork and procedure: asking about your rights and duties at work, dealing with a council counter, and reading the terms that turn up in a report or an official letter.

  7. B1.7 Romanian Culture and Traditions in Workplace and Daily Life

    Understand what is being said around you at the office and in your building, learn to address people by the right form of their name, and learn how a diminutive softens a request or turns a meeting into an invitation.

  8. B1.8 Hypotheses and Conditions in Work and Daily Life

    Master both Romanian conditionals and all three conditional sentence patterns — so you can negotiate a clause, ask your manager for something politely, and talk about the chance that got away.

  9. B1.9 Argumentation and Debate in the Workplace

    Build an opinion, back it with evidence, disagree with a manager or a colleague without it turning personal, and land on a workable compromise.

  10. B1.10 Formal Correspondence (Scrisoarea formală)

    Write a Romanian formal letter or e-mail from the opening line to the sign-off: a request to an office, a written complaint about a service, and a job application.

  11. B1.11 The Pluperfect: What Had Happened Before (Mai-mult-ca-perfectul)

    Read Romanian official notices and news bulletins with confidence, report what you read accurately and with the right degree of certainty, and ask an authority for written clarification.

  2. B2.2 The World of Work (Advanced): Contracts and Professional Meetings

    Read your own employment contract, present information in a meeting in neutral professional register, disagree without confrontation, and follow a request through the Romanian paperwork chain from application to stamped certificate.

  3. B2.3 Society and Demographics

    Learn the language that makes a number mean something: reading a demographic figure and reporting it with measured wording, comparing by degree rather than with one flat word, and ordering two past events so it is clear which came first.

  4. B2.4 Economy and Law in the Romanian Workplace

    Read the contract before you sign it. Learn how Romanian builds a technical term, how to break a long legal sentence into its parts, and how to query a specific clause in the language of the document itself.

  5. B2.5 Literature and Narrative in Romanian

    Meet the Romanian tense that is written but never spoken, learn how word order works on the page, and pick up the vocabulary of literary analysis — enough to read a Romanian text, or an old official document, and discuss it properly.

  6. B2.6 Science and Technology in the Romanian Workplace

    Learn the register of the technical report: stating a fact without putting yourself in the sentence, linking cause to consequence across a coherent paragraph, and packing two statements into one.

  7. B2.7 RON.B2.7: Identity, Culture, and Workplace Etiquette

    Say things with the degree of confidence you actually have, move between formal and informal register at work, and recognise a sentence whose literal words are not its point.

  8. B2.8 Art and Heritage

    Describe a building or an exhibited work in one complete sentence, express appreciation at a specific level rather than with a vague adjective, and enter a professional reservation without confrontation.

  9. B2.9 Environment and Globalisation in Romanian Professional Contexts

    Build a case that holds together end to end — fact, cause, consequence, acknowledgement of the other side, conclusion — so that you can speak in long sentences and still be followed to the last word.

  10. B2.10 Romania in the World: Institutions, Diplomacy, and Media Language

    The closing unit of the level: read an official document and identify the body that issued it, talk about your residence status and paperwork with the right terms, and summarise a statistical line from a report with its source.
