Spanish curriculum

44 lessons from A1 to B2. Each level is built on the level description of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), has a mock exam in the format of the official one, and every part of that exam is linked to the lessons that teach it.

The curriculum prepares you for the level and the exam. The official certificate is awarded by the body that runs the exam, not by the platform.

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people they know and things they have. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

    Introduce yourself in Spanish and mean it: your name, where you are from, your age and what you do — and ask someone else the same questions.

  2. A1.2 Unit ESP.A1.2: Ser and Estar (Two Verbs for 'To Be')

    Spanish has two verbs where English has one. Learn when a thing simply *is* (ser) and when it merely *is right now* (estar) — and describe people and places without getting it wrong.

  3. A1.3 Definite & Indefinite Articles and Question Formation

    Get the little words right. This unit covers Spanish articles, how to tell a noun's gender, how to make plurals, and the eight question words that build almost every question you will ask.

  4. A1.4 Daily Routine and Work Schedule (La Vida Cotidiana)

    Tell someone what your day looks like — waking, eating, working, studying, sleeping — say what time it happens, and say what you are going to do tomorrow.

  5. A1.5 Family and Home

    Talk about your family and describe where you live: relatives, rooms, furniture, who owns what, and where everything is.

  6. A1.6 Food and Ordering at the Restaurant

    Order a full meal in a Spanish restaurant, say what you like and what you do not, and point out a mistake in your order politely.

  7. A1.7 Leisure and Travel in Spain

    Talk about your free time and your sport, make plans with someone and agree a time, buy a train ticket, book a room — and handle it when you miss your train.

  8. A1.8 Shopping and Services

    Clothes, shops and numbers over a hundred — plus the object pronouns and comparisons that let you shop without repeating yourself.

  9. A1.9 Health, the Body, and Expressing Illness

    Explain what hurts, understand the advice and the dosage you are given, and get what you need from a Spanish pharmacy or a doctor's surgery.

  10. A1.10 The City and Transport

    Learn to ask for directions and understand the answer, get around a Spanish city by metro, bus and train, and buy your ticket with confidence.

Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

  1. A2.1 The Present Perfect Tense in Spanish

    Learn the Spanish present perfect: talk about what you have done today, ask people about their life experiences, and describe a past action whose result is still with you right now.

  2. A2.2 El Pretérito Indefinido (Simple Past Tense)

    Master the Spanish simple past: talk about finished events, tell a story in order from beginning to end, and know when to choose this tense over the present perfect you learned in the previous unit.

  3. A2.3 The Imperfect Tense (El Pretérito Imperfecto)

    Learn the Spanish imperfect tense: describe what you used to do, paint a scene with its people, weather and time of day, and combine it with the simple past to tell a story that has both a background and an event.

  4. A2.4 Object Pronouns (Direct and Indirect)

    Learn Spanish object pronouns: stop repeating nouns, put the pronoun in exactly the right place, and combine two pronouns in one sentence without tripping over them.

  5. A2.5 The Future and Plans

    Three ways to talk about the future in Spanish: the near, decided plan; the prediction or promise; and the intention you are still turning over. Learn to build all three and to pick the right one.

  6. A2.6 Simple Conditional and Giving Advice at Work and Daily Life

    Learn the Spanish conditional: make polite requests, give advice without sounding like you are issuing orders, and talk about what you would do in a situation that has not happened.

  7. A2.7 The Imperative: Commands and Instructions

    Learn the Spanish imperative, positive and negative: give instructions, direct someone through a city, walk through a recipe step by step, and say *don't* — which Spanish builds in a completely different way from *do*.

  8. A2.8 Connectors and Compound Sentences

    Learn to join your sentences: connectors of cause, purpose, time and contrast, plus the discourse markers that turn a list of short statements into a paragraph someone wants to read.

  9. A2.9 Describing and Comparing

    Learn to compare in Spanish: more, less and equal; the two kinds of superlative; the four irregular comparatives; and the quantifiers that must agree with the noun they measure.

  10. A2.10 Environment and Weather in Spain

    Talk about weather, seasons and the natural world in Spanish, and learn the impersonal se — the structure Spanish uses for what people generally do and what is or is not allowed.

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

    Move from stating facts to expressing wishes, doubt, feelings and advice. Learn how the present subjuntivo is formed and — more importantly — how to recognise the moment a sentence demands it.

  2. B1.2 Relative Clauses in Spanish

    Join short sentences into longer, connected ones using que, donde, quien and lo que — and learn the rule that decides whether the verb inside a relative clause is indicative or subjunctive.

  3. B1.3 Reported Speech in the Workplace

    Report what other people said in Spanish — statements, questions, requests and instructions — shifting the tenses, pronouns and time expressions to match the moment you are speaking.

  4. B1.4 Conditional Sentences in Spanish

    Master both Spanish conditionals — the real one for things that may happen and the hypothetical one for things that probably will not — and use Si yo fuera tú to give advice without giving orders.

  5. B1.5 Advanced Ser, Estar, and Haber: Meaning Changes and Passive Voice

    Take ser, estar and haber past the beginner rule. Learn the adjectives whose meaning flips between the two verbs, the resultant-state and passive constructions, and the progressive across every tense.

  6. B1.6 Verbal Periphrases for Obligation, Aspect, and Duration

    Learn the two-verb constructions that carry everyday Spanish — obligation, starting, continuing, repeating, stopping and intending — and sound markedly more natural for it.

  7. B1.7 The Pluperfect and Past Narration

    Learn the Spanish past perfect for events that happened before another past event, then combine all the past tenses into a properly structured narrative.

  8. B1.8 Expressing Opinions and Arguing in Spanish
